CTMH My Acrylix Stamps Video

My friend and fellow Close to my Heart Consultant just posted a video on CTMH MyAcrylix stamps. She's trying to win a contest where she needs to get the most views...so will you help her and watch it?

Mandy made a hilarious and very clever parody of the ShamWOW commercial...I guarantee you'll get a good laugh out of it!

CTMH Party Project

These are the two projects we made at my Close to my Heart party last night.

The first project began with a small Nerds box. Scroll down to the bottom to see how it turned out!

My hostess wanted to make Valentines and she LOVES glitter, so I taught the fabulous glitter-n-tape technique I learned from Tresa Black's video. I also tried to keep the card fairly masculine since most of us will be giving it to our husbands or boyfriends :)

We used the Veranda Creative basics paper along with a mixture of 3 stamp sets. The Love Always stamp set is actually a wedding stamp set, but it works perfectly for this occasion. The Tulip-colored heart is from the Love Language Stamp set. It's also a great multi-tasker...this stamp set can be used for Valentines but is mostly a lot of fun hearts that I use for all kinds of projects. The third stamp set was the January Stamp of the Month, True Friends.

The January Stamp of the Month set is only available for one more day! You can get this set at a discount or free...here's the breakdown:

Now for the finished product for our Nerds. Isn't it cute?! I must admit I got the idea from a video I saw on Chicknscratch.com, but made some alterations for my own use.

Here are the instructions for the mini Nerds Boxes I bought (your Nerds box dimensions may slightly differ):
  • Cut white cardstock to 1-11/16" x 4-1/4"
  • Score at 5/8", add another 1-5/16" and score, add another 5/8" and score, add another 1-5/16" and score.
  • Fold on score lines and wrap around Nerds box. Adhere together on one of the short sides.
  • Tie a 9-1/4" ribbon around the box. You may want to attach the ribbon with a glue dot on the bottom of the box to keep it in place while you tie it.
  • Embellish as desired. I used a 1" and 1-1/4" circle for the front and a 1-1/4" heart for the back. The circles are attached with a 3D foam dot for some dimension.
  • NOTE: If you're using wooden stamps you'll want to stamp first, then punch your circle to make sure your image is centered. If you're using CTMH clear stamps this doesn't matter as much because you can see exactly where you're stamping! (But you may want to stamp first just to make sure it's perfect.)
  • Isn't this mini bee stamp set cute?! It is not available for purchase, but you can get it for FREE by booking a party with me or by placing an order of $50+ on my website by Feb. 14, 2010.

Bee Mine 3" x 3" Card

This cute little card was made using the new CTMH Veranda paper pack and Bee Mine mini stamp set. (You may recognize it from the back of the new Spring Idea Book).

This stamp set is not available for purchase--but you can get it for FREE by booking a party with me or placing an order of $50 or more in Close to my Heart products. You can either email me at jaymalew[at]gmail.com or place the order on my website. This offer is good through Feb. 14, 2010.

Here's a tip for my fellow bloggers: if you are wondering why I don't enter my email address with the @ symbol, it's because of spam. Spammers are constantly scanning websites searching for email addresses, so I never enter my full email address in the text of my blog. Only if it is within a graphic, or with [at] spelled out. Bet you just learned something today :)

Paper Sundaes First Challenge!

This card is for the very first challenge at Paper Sundaes. I've been doing lots of challenges lately...having so much fun with them. It's been getting me to make lots more cards!

I used the new Caboodle Paper Pack from Close to my Heart for this card, with strip of Crystal Blue from Twitterpated. This was my first time using Caboodle...I just love the colors! The Die-cuts are from a special promotion CTMH had last year, so unfortunately they're no longer available. They sure were fun to play with though!
Tip: If you don't have a piece of ribbon to match your project, use cardstock! Cut it very thin to fit through the button holes, and tie it loosely onto the button.

All Supplies are Close to my Heart...
Paper: Caboodle, Twitterpated
Stamp Set: Thank You
Colors: Sorbet, Buttercup, Crystal Blue, Sweet Leaf

I'm So Excited (And I Just Can't Hide It)

I performed to this song by the Pointer Sisters in my third grade Lip Sync. Check out my fluorescent leotard and crimped hair...I'm the one in the middle! Yes, I was truly a child of the 80's :)
Ok, back to business...the reason I'm excited is not because of 80's music, but because I made the Design Team at Practical Scrappers! If you haven't checked out their fantastic blog, head on over there right now. It's one of the best challenge blogs for me, because it's just as the name implies...PRACTICAL! I'm so thrilled to be a part of their talented team.

The challenge for this week is to use patterned paper. So go ahead and dig deep in your stash and find something really good to show us! Then go to the Practical Scrappers blog and link your blog so we can see!

Here's my submission. I wanted to showcase several of these colorful patterns and found a card at the PaperCrafts blog that inspired my design.
I've been having lots of fun with this Carolyn Gavin paper stack I found at Michael's. Love the bright colors!

Stamp set: CTMH Thank You (my most-used stamp set)
Paper: Carolyn Gavin from Michael's
Ink: CTMH Ocean
Other: CTMH Bitty Sparkles, hemp (love the quality of CTMH), leather flower embellishment (I think I found it at Target some time ago)

Valentine's Card for my Niece

I made this simple Valentine's card for my niece, who is 1-1/2 years old. She doesn't understand the concept of cards yet, but she loves bright colors and animals. I'm sure she will enjoy looking at this, especially since I stamped a bird inside for her :)

This card qualifies for the caardvarks challenge for this week, to use red and hearts!
It's hard to tell from the photo, but there's glitter on the bird. I'm sure Madison will love that too. She's all girl and loves the bling :)

Stamp set: CTMH Love Language
Paper: Carolyn Gavin from Michael's
Letters: Target dollar bin (gotta love those finds!)
Ink: CTMH Watermelon
Other: CTMH White Daisy Grosgrain Ribbon, CTMH Bitty Sparkles

Cards on a Rainy Day

It's been pouring cats and dogs here in LA, so yesterday I stayed inside and had a craft day. Here are a couple cards I made...I guess I was in a red, yellow, green, and blue kind of mood. Didn't mean to make them both the same colors, it just happened that way. But they both qualify for Charisma Cardz challenge this week...fruity colors!

Both cards use the Thank You stamp set and Spot On Backgrounds stamp set from CTMH for some added texture.

Mojo Monday #122 | Practical Scrappers | Charisma Cardz

This card qualifies for the Mojo Monday sketch challenge, the Practical Scrappers challenge (embossing), and Charisma Cardz (use something new - my Nestabilities). I've used dry embossing with a Cuttlebug folder and clear heat embossing on the brown flower (hard to tell in the photo). I also threw a couple other techniques in there...I sanded the Happy Birthday dry embossing to expose the white core and make it pop, and I and masked the tulip flower so the juniper flowers would look like they're stamped behind it.
If you would like to learn these techniques or any others, and live in the LA or San Diego area, let me know and we'll book a fun craft party for you!

Supplies (CTMH)
Stamp sets: Treasure Life, Happy Birthday
Paper pack: Perfect Day
Ink colors: Tulip, Juniper, Cocoa

Veranda Valentine's Card

I was inspired to make this card from page 72 of the new CTMH Spring Idea Book. I love the small pop of Tulip and clean lines combined with this beautiful new Veranda paper. I used the gorgeous wedding stamp set, Love Always. I'm actually not a huge Valentine's Day person, but I make a lot of wedding cards, so this is a great set to use for multiple occasions. The heart stamp is from the Love Language stamp set.

Practical Scrappers Sketch Friday

Here's my submission for the Sketch Friday over at Practical Scrappers this past week. I wasn't feeling in a scrapbook page kind of mood, so I skewed it a bit to fit a card. I used the new Close to my Heart You Rock paper. This was my first project using this paper...love it! But I'm a sucker for stars anyway.

This is my third project using my new Nestabilities and I'm hooked. I got 4 sets for Christmas and I already want more :)
Paper: CTMH You Rock
Stamp Sets: Star Struck, Wishing Star
Colors: Olive, Smoky Plum, Sunflower, Indian Corn Blue
Other: Nestabilities Large Circles

My Card Won at Practical Scrappers!

Last week I participated in my first challenge at Practical Scrappers...and my card was one chosen as a winner! I'm so excited! I encourage you to participate in their challenges...although this was my first, I've looked at some of their past challenges and they're really great. I love practicality and will continue participating :)

Here is my winning card. Here's my original post.

Valentine Candy Holder

Once again, I'm using the Life's a Jungle stamp set for a Valentine project. It's so perfect! I got this idea from Angie at Chic' n Scratch, and thought it was so adorable I had to try it. It's pretty simple...you could easily do a bunch of these for your kids' classmates....or for your own friends :)
Hint #1: Attach the scalloped embellishment with 1 3D dot on the top and 1 on the bottom. This way the ribbon can slide right through.Hint #2: When I make this again, I will wait to adhere the embellishment on the front until I'm finished so that I can stamp the inside sentiment in the center of the flap.

The dimensions for the long piece are 9-3/4" x 3-1/2", score at 3-1/4 from each end.

Stamp sets: Life's a Jungle, With love (heart inside monkey)
Colors: Hollyhock and Cocoa on CTMH White Daisy Cardstock
Cuttlebug folder: Swiss Dots

Life's a Jungle Valentines

I got the idea for these little Valentines from Vicki. Isn't this Life's a Jungle stamp set the most perfect set for making Valentines? I originally bought it with my nephew Connor (expected to be born Feb. 12) in mind, but I've used it so often for things other than for a baby boy. I love these animals! The colors I used for these Valentines are Desert Sand/Hollyhock, Crystal Blue/Cocoa, and Topiary/Cocoa.

Dimensions are 3" x 4", same as the Valentines I posted yesterday, but orientated horizontally. The white strip was cut at 4" x 2.5", then the scalloped edge was made. These are really quick to make, and even faster if you don't do the scalloped edge on the white piece (although not as pretty). You could whip these out for your kid(s)' classmates in no time and your child(ren) will have the cutest Valentines in the class!

Topstitch Valentines

I made these cute little Valentines using the new Topstitch paper and several different stamp sets: Life's a Jungle, You're a Hoot, Love Language, and Chocolate Alphabet-small. The tiny heart on the monkey is from With Love.

The card is flat and measures 3" x 4". The center square is 3" x 3".

Colors are Chocolate, Baby Pink, Heavenly Blue, and Cocoa.

One Card, FOUR Challenges!

I've gotta say, I'm pretty proud of myself this week. And it's only Tuesday! Usually I'm a one-challenge-at-a-time girl, but this week I completed FOUR different challenges with ONE card!

This card qualifies for: Mojo Monday (Sketch by Julee Tilman), Crazy 4 Challenges (birthday), Practical Scrappers (use some bling), and Jeanette's Color Me Monday (Cocoa, Crystal Blue, Garden Green, Hollyhock). My design was inspired by Wanda Cullen's Mojo Monday card. Enjoy!
Don't ask how I expect to fit this in an envelope :)

To match Jeannette's color challenge I used several different Close to my Heart paper packs: Notebook for some Crystal Blue, Boom-di-Ada (one of my favorites!) for Hollyhock, and Twitterpated for a different pattern of Crystal Blue. I used cardstock for Cocoa and Garden Green. I stamped the Cocoa flower with the dots from the Spot-On Backgrounds stamp set in Cocoa ink to add some tone-on-tone interest. Other stamp sets used: Happy Birthday and With Love (another favorite of mine--goes perfectly with the Boom-di-Ada paper).

To make the crumpled flower: I simply punched about 8-10 two-inch scalloped circle "flowers." Then I used my piercing tool to make a hole through the center of all of them and attached a brad to hold them together. Starting with the top flower, crumple it in toward the center, trying to keep the top showing, which has the color/pattern you chose. Continue with each flower beneath, and eventually you have a pretty and distressed-looking 3D flower! The beauty of using CTMH paper for this is that it's two-sided, so the small amount of the underside of the flower you do see complements your colors! I've seen this technique used with old maps and vintage paper, which also looks great and adds to the distressed look!

Birthday Surprise Scrapbook Pages - Breakfast and Rodeo Drive

I moved to LA from San Diego about 6 months ago, and my wonderful friends Melissa, Lauren, and Erika came up on the Sunday morning following my birthday to surprise me! They're the best! I am on a gluten-free diet, so they had looked up some breakfast places that have gluten-free options, and we ended up in West Hollywood. Lauren is a professional photographer, so I have some GREAT photos to remember this special day by :)
This NYT magazine was on the table when we arrived so we were trying our shot at Taylor Swift's pose.
They even brought a candle to put in my scramble.
Then it was off to Rodeo Drive to gallivant around shops where we couldn't afford anything. But it was a ton of fun!
My favorite shot...me helping Santa up to the roof ;)
Lauren is so creative. I love how she got all of us in the reflection of the ornament. She even let me play with her fancy camera so I took a few photos :)
I like to fit lots of photos on my scrapbook pages and I'm always looking for new layout ideas. Let me know if you have any!

Stamp sets used: Posterboard Alphabet, Star Struck
I used some paper from Stampin' Up and some paper and embellishments from a Memory Works Christmas kit from last year.

Christmas 2008 Scrapbook Layouts with CTMH Jingle

I had a few photos left from last Christmas that I finally scrapbooked. I'm actually glad I waited because look how great the new Jingle paper goes with my niece's sweater!
I sprayed the snowflake with spray adhesive then sprinkled with glitter. The silver ribbon is from the new CTMH Connections Club rewards. So are the twilight metal corner edges in the photo above.
This following page was a lot of fun to create. I especially love how the Posterboard alphabet shows off the fun paper! For a limited time you can buy this stamp set for just $28 here (reg. $34.95). Watch the new "Happy Hightlights" Art & Soul episode for more ideas with this versatile stamp set!

The silver ribbon, again, and the Olive frame around "Noel" are from the new Connections Club rewards. These rewards are so fun to play with! You can get some of your own for FREE by spending $100 on CTMH products through me! There are several different color combinations to choose from. Email me for details: jaymalew[at]gmail.com.

A Christmas Carol and Hollywood with Friends Scrapbook Pages

I worked at Disney from August thru December on a special project for their "A Christmas Carol" Train Tour that made its way across the country leading up to the movie's release on Nov. 6. Since the movie had been such a huge part of my life, my friends and I went to Hollywood to see it in 3D on opening weekend at Disney's El Capitan Theatre. We had a blast! I finally got around to scrapbooking the pictures. I used Jingle and Emporium Creative Basics Paper packs from Close to my Heart. That awesome chipboard circle is from the On Target Dimensional Elements...it's a lot of fun to work with...especially in this layout! Melissa has a very deep love for Kermit the Frog, so I had to make her photo with his star stand out :)
If you're wondering, the movie was great! Definitely a must-see...the motion-capture technology they used has come 100 times farther than when they used it for "The Polar Express." Even though Dickens' classic has been made into tons of movies, you really can never get tired of the story, and this rendition is VERY true to Dickens' version.
