Happy Everything!

This is another card I made using paper and Martha Stewart embellishments from The Paper Source. I just love this Blooming Flourishes stamp set from Close to my Heart. I stamped it in hollyhock ink...one of my favorite CTMH exclusive colors. I stamped "Happy everything" from the With Love stamp set (another favorite) in cocoa ink.

Splendor Photo Hanger

I've gotta give myself props...I've posted every day this week so far! That means I'm getting lots of creating done...yippee! Here's another sneak peek at some new CTMH products from the summer Idea Book releasing May 1. This is now the FIFTH in my series of photo frame decorations for my cubicle at work. I'm getting some nice compliments from my co-workers :)

This frame is also on a piece of 6" x 6" chipboard from a mini-album I found in the dollar bin at Michael's. I covered and decorated it with the new Splendor paper...my new ALL-TIME favorite!!! I just love the bright, summery colors! I also used the new 1-1/4" circle punch to make that cool flower, Splendor Designer Brads, and Irresistibles chipboard. The colors from CTMH's exclusive color palette are goldrush, topiary, heavenly blue, and moonstruck. If you want to learn how to make the flower...ask me for an Idea Book...there's a step-by-step tutorial with pictures inside!

Aren't my hubby and I the cutest?! I love him a whole lot, and this decoration makes me happy to look at :)

Cherry-O Stationary Set | Practical Scrappers Button Challenge

Here's a sneak peek at some new Close to my Heart products, releasing with the new Idea Book on May 1. This week's challenge at Practical Scrappers is to use buttons. I've seen people use buttons for cherries and think it's so cute...and Close to my Heart's new You're Sweet stamp set was perfect for this project. And this paper...isn't it the cutest?! It's called Cherry-O, and I am in love with it! I included a tutorial at the bottom of this post...so be sure to scroll down!
This is the other side of the holder, with a pocket for the matching envelopes.
I found a post similar to this on Dannie's Designs blog a looooong time ago and loved her idea. I used some of her dimensions and changed it up a little bit.

This photo looks kind of weird, but I wanted you to be able to see how the pockets are on each side.

INSTRUCTIONS

Note Card Holder
* (2) pieces of 8-1/2" x 5-1/4" cardstock
* Hold cardstock horizontally and score at 6" and 6-1/4"
* Fold on each score line to form the folder like in my photos.
* (2) pieces of 5" x 2" patterned paper to cover the pocket flaps.
* Once the pattnered paper is adhered, attach the top sides of each flap with a brad if you'd like. Be sure to leave enough room between the brads for the 4-1/4" notecard. (I only have one brad on each side for this reason!)
* Adhere the backs of each folder together, so the pockets are facing out. Wrap with a ribbon and decorate as desired!

Note Cards
* Standard 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" base (colored cardstock)
* 4" x 5-1/4" white cardstock to write on.
* 1-1/2" strip of cardstock for across the top
* 1-1/4" strip of patterned paper for across the top
* 2" scallop circle
* 1-3/4" circle
* stamps of your choice

If you have any questions, leave a comment or email me at jaymalew[at]gmail.com. Happy scrapping...and don't forget to play along at Practical Scrappers!

Heart 2 Heart Challenge: 2 Ribbons

The challenge this week at Heart 2 Heart Challenges is to use 2 ribbons. For my project I made a Flip Flap album with Caboodle paper and A Tweet (new low price! Just $7.95) and Springtime stamp sets from CTMH. I got the instructions for this album from my upline, Kay Pekin. (Instructions below.)
To get the ribbon to stay in place, I made a hole with my piercing tool where I wanted the ribbon to come out. Then I stuck the ribbon through the holes and covered with a Bigger Brad. I also put the brad through the ribbon on the other side so the ribbon doesn't come back through the hole, and taped everything in place. Be sure to do all this before covering the opposite side with paper, that way you can cover the brad/ribbon/tape with B&T paper.
I encourage you to play along at Heart 2 Heart...the challenges are great and we've had a lot of talented people submit their artwork. I love challenges because it often pushes me out of my comfort zone when creating, and looking at everyone else's artwork is always inspiring! If that's not enough, you could be chosen to be one of our Friday Five winners :)

INSTRUCTIONS for the Flip Flap album

Pieces needed:
  • (1) 9-1/2" x 4-3/4" piece of cardstock scored 2 times at 1-3/4" and 2"
  • (1) 7-1/2" x 4-3/4" piece of cardstock scored about 7/8" from edge
  • (1) 7" x 4-3/4" piece of patterned paper
  • (4) 1-3/4" x 4-3/4" piece of cardstock scored in half
  • (5) Flip Flaps from CTMH
  • (2) 7" pieces of ribbon
  • (2) bigger brads
  • Any embellishments or patterned paper cut at 4-3/4" x ? to decorate the front
1) Fold all cardstock on fold lines, following my picture as a guide.
2) Tape patterned paper on long piece of cardstock, close to the score line.
3) Glue all (4) 1-3/4" strips together in half.
4) Place the 1st Flip Flap on top of the patterned paper. Place 1/8" from score, peel and adhere.
5) Adhere 1st strip over the flip flap with FOLDED EDGE TOWARD THE OUTSIDE.
*Repeat steps 4 & 5 until you put your last strip on.
6) Glue the top piece of cardstock on and decorate!

I hope this makes sense. Leave a comment or email me at jaymalew[at]gmail.com if you have any questions!

Amazing Cherry Blossoms

Isn't this paper awesome!?! It's another find at The Paper Source. It's expensive, but I didn't buy it, my aunt did :) And it sure does look impressive in person! The paper makes the whole card! The flower embellishment is Martha Stewart and the sentiment is from the CTMH Gracious Greetings stamp set.

Celebrate Card with Fancy Paper

This is another card I made with my aunt last month with AMAZING paper that we got at The Paper Source. The flower embellishment is Martha Stewart. The sentiment stamp is from the CTMH "Everyday Celebration" stamp set, which was part of a special a few months back.

Heart 2 Heart Challenge | Practical Scrappers Challenge

I finished this project a few weeks ago for a wedding gift and have been dying to share it! I'm so glad I can now :) I love how it turned out...can't wait to see it complete with photos! The "E" canvas fits the sketch for this week's Heart to Heart Challenge. The challenge at Practical Scrappers this week is to use floss, fiber, and/or ribbon. I chose ribbon, which is tied around each of the chipboard letters.

I got this idea from the very talented Denise Black. (Check out her amazing blog!) I began with four 8" x 10" canvases and coated them in Mod Podge, then attached Veranda paper (Level 2 and Creative Basics) and covered in Mod Podge again to seal. Then I had fun embellishing using chipboard, pearls, Just Blooms, filigree charms, brads, ribbon, etc.
This was my inspiration...the bedding on their registry. (The canvases aren't quite as dark as the photo portrays, it it's pretty close to the inspiration colors.)
"L" details...
The chipboard letters are covered in paper from Key to my Heart (retired). The Cocoa cardstock swirls are cut from a Sizzix die-cut. (I don't recommend using the Sizzlets in a Cuttlebug...it didn't work too easily.)
"O" details...
To make the fun shape out of the green paper, I traced one of the "Miracles" die-cut papers onto the Veranda paper and cut it out.
"V" details...
"E" details (which follows the sketch at Heart2Heart)...

Thanks for looking! I hope you will play along, too! There's wonderful prize package for CTMH products over at Heart 2 Heart Challenges, sponsored by Diane Cook! And a prize at Practical Scrappers for 5 free digi stamps from Creations by Penny.

Thinking of You

My aunt visited from Florida last month (the aunt I keep referring to in my blog posts who likes bright colors!). She's always been crafty, but hadn't done papercrafts before, and she's been wanting me to show her how to make cards. Well, show her I did!

We were at my parents' house in San Diego and I didn't bring my craft stuff (I wasn't expecting to be crafting), so we used my mom's stash and went to The Paper Source to get some additional goodies. We got some AMAZING handmade paper!! Wowee do they have some awesome stuff at that store! Along with several types of specialty paper and cardstock, we got some Martha Stewart embellishments, like the flowers shown below. We paired these fun finds with the stamps, inks, and embellishments my mom has collected from my CTMH parties she's attended, and we ended up making about 6 cards each in one night! She's hooked!

Here's one of the cards I made. I'll share the others over the next couple of weeks.
CTMH supplies:
Gracious Greetings stamp set, Orange ink pad, sponge dauber

Card Patterns Challenge

I made this card for the sketch from Card Patterns for this week. I just love the Daydream paper pack from Close to my heart, but usually I use it for projects for my little niece. This time I used it in a different way :) This is also the first time I played with my Felicity stamp set and my A Little Everything stamp set, which was the March stamp of the month.

Heart 2 Heart 1-2-3 Challenge

This is my second post for today, so please scroll down to see my Practical Scrappers DT post.

Today marks the second week of Heart 2 Heart's CTMH Challenges! I'm so excited to be a part of the amazing Design Team. Last week I had lots of fun looking at all of our participants' awesome submissions! Thank you to each of you who participated...we had over 60 submissions! Impressive for a very first challenge!

I hope you'll participate again (or for the first time) this week, as we have another fun challenge for you. This challenge is 1-2-3. Use 1 stamp (CTMH), 2 different patterned papers, and 3 embellishments (same or different). You must use CTMH products, current or retired, but it doesn't have to be 100% CTMH.

My submission is the 4th in a series of decorations I'm making for my cubicle at work. I am hanging these fancy photo "frames" all over my walls. It not only makes me happy to see my family and pretty paper creations while I'm at work, but I get comments from my co-workers, which helps me bring up the topic of Close to my Heart :) I found several mini 6" x 6" chipboard albums in the $1 bin at Michael's, and I have been using the individual pages for my hanging frames.

Supplies
Paper: Aspen, Emporium, Twilight cardstock
Stamp Sets: Save the Date, Friendship Alphabet (small)
Embellishments: Clear sparkles, Dimensional Elements Flurry, Organdy Ribbon (not CTMH), prisma glitter (covering the small star)

Practical Scrappers Challenge - Use Bling!

This week's challenge at Practical Scrappers is to use BLING! I love bling, so that was an easy challenge for me :) I blinged up my layout with glitter letters for the title and rhinestones/jewels on the 3D flower stickers. I created this page for a scrapbook I completed a couple years ago (we've been married 3-1/2 years now)...back when I was caught up on my scrapbooking. I don't remember what that's like anymore!
I really love this argyle paper, but I bought it several years ago at a scrapbook store so I don't think it's available anymore. Just love the colors, plus I'm a sucker for argyle.

Wordle Fun!

Wordle is a website that generates "word clouds" from text that you provide, either by pasting in your text or entering your blog address. The clouds create a picture with the words, showing which words you use most often. Here's what mine looks like right now.
You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. Have some fun yourself :)

Beachy Charm Bracelet

My aunt lives in Florida and loves all things about Florida, including beach-themed stuff. So for her birthday I made her this little charm bracelet. She's always the biggest fan of my jewelry, cards, and anything handmade, so I love to come up with fun things to make for her :)

My First Finished Studio J Layout!

I've played around with Studio J a few times, but this is the first layout I've finished and am ordering! Woo hoo! I am and will always be a hands-on paper scrapper, but I am so behind on scrapbooking that Studio J offers a quick and fun way to catch up. It took me about half an hour to put this layout together. These are some professional photos we had taken of our family before Christmas. I love the colors with the Magic Moments paper (my all-time favorite paper kit)!
For those of you who don't know what Studio J is, it's Close to my Heart's brand-new online "studio" scrapbooking software. No software to buy or download, everything is done online. You can even scrapbook at work! (Shhhhh! I'm not endorsing that!) ;) It's great for moms with limited time or those who love scrapbooks but don't know where to begin...or anyone, really. I'm using it to catch up on my scrapbooking since I'm behind and this is faster. You simply upload your photos, choose your paper kit, choose your layout, and embellish. It's seriously fool-proof! And get this: It's FREE to use! You only pay for the 12"x12" professionally-printed layouts you purchase...which are very reasonably priced! Starting off, a 2-page layout will be $12.95, and for every 5 you buy you will receive 5 FREE page protectors (reg. $5.95/10 pages). If you buy 10 or more layouts, you will also receive FREE shipping!

But look at the layout above. There are 2 photos that would need to be printed at 8x10. I wanted to be sure to have some large photos on my layout, because these were great, professional photos we had taken. A good price for an 8x10 enlargement is $3.99. That's $8 right there. You get the whole 2-page layout, photos included, for $12.99! You don't have to buy the paper ($12.95) or the stickers ($4.95) or the brads ($4.95) or the memory protectors. You're actually SAVING money by scrapbooking this way! Now, I'm not trying to talk anyone out of buying the paper and embellishments...I will forever buy them and prefer using them, I'm just saying, it makes sense to scrapbook this way if you're not a die-hard paper fan like I am. ;)

CTMH Consultants have a preview period right now, and the program will launch to customers in late April. Want to play now?! Become a Consultant! On top of an early preview period, you'll also receive 22% off. I'd love to have you on my team. Or you can simply learn more about Studio J here.

The FIRST Heart 2 Heart Challenge | Practical Scrapper Challenge

Welcome to our very first CTMH Heart to Heart Challenge! And happy day-after Easter! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend. I am going to have to celebrate Easter today, because yesterday I was in bed with a horrible migraine the ENTIRE day!!! Aghhh. But I am excited to be feeling well today for the unveiling of our color challenge: chocolate, sunflower, and sweet leaf. Today also marks the start of a new challenge at Practical Scrappers: markers.
heart to heart challenge #1 colorsI colored the stripes of the owl on the left with a sweet leaf marker and paper-pieced the eyes. For the owl on the right, I paper-pieced all the colored parts. To get the bracket-shaped piece of paper on the left of the card, I traced a card base from a Constant Campaign from last year. I forget the name of the campaign (Celebrate?), but it came w/ fun-shaped cards and lots of chocolate embellishments. If you know the name of the campaign feel free to enlighten me :)
Now you can play along, too! If you don't have these exact colors, choose something close. Be sure to use CTMH products - new or retired - and link your blog post to Mr. Linky at Heart2HeartChallenges! There's a great prize this week!

Supplies
Stamp set: You're a Hoot
Paper: Magic Moments, Daydream, Sweet leaf and chocolate cardstock
Other: Irresistibles Chipboard from the Miracle kit (ask me how you can get this kit for free), chocolate waxy flax, chocolate brads

Card, Pen, Bookmarks Gift Set

A while ago I posted some pictures of cards I made for my aunt's card box. Well, I am now finally getting around to posting photos of the whole ensemble :) I bought this plain white pencil box at Michael's and covered it with paper, then sealed it with Mod Podge. Then I decorated it in the bright, cheery colors that my aunt loves :)
I included 2 RSVP pens, which are easily altered to match. Simply use a scrap of paper about 1" wide, roll it tightly, then screw the end of the pen off and slip it down. Easy peasy!
This is what it looked like with everything inside...
These are GIANT paper clips that I turned into bookmarks. I used Mod Podge on these, too, to make them a little more durable. I put a scallop circle on each side of the paper clip, and put 3D foam squares and glue dots in the center to hold them in place.
And here are the 6 cards that went inside...
This one's my favorite...

The paper I used is from a paper stack I got at Michael's by Carolyn Gavin. I love the bright colors and fun patterns!

Stamp sets used: Thank you, Cottage Floral, Sweet Baby, Posterboard Alphabet
