Pemberley Scrapbook Kit Class

I'm having my first Scrapbook Kit class! On Saturday, April 7, if you are in the Seattle area you are invited to attend my Pemberley Scrapbook Kit Class at the Mercer Island library. I have limited space, though, so check out my Meetup group for availability.

We will be using the Pemberley Workshop on the Go kit from Close to my Heart. This awesome kit includes everything needed to make the featured layout we'll make during class, including:
  • Pemberley Paper Packet
  • My Acrylix® Pemberley Workshop Stamp Set (C-size)
  • Colonial White Cardstock Sheets (2 extra)
  • Bouquet Assortment
  • Bitty Opaques Pearl Adhesive Gems
  • Step-by-step instructional Guide
I WILL PROVIDE stamp pads, acrylic blocks, and my Cricut Expression with the Art Philosophy cartridge. You may use my supplies or purchase your own.

BRING your adhesive and paper trimmer.

COST is $35

REGISTER on my Meetup group page.

You'll have TONS of leftover supplies to make more scrapbook layouts and/or cards. In fact, there's another layout and cards featured in the kit and instructions are on my website.

Here's the layout featured in the kit that we'll make during class.

The instructions are flexible so you can change it up to fit your taste and photos. Here's the layout I created. I changed out the paper (all in the kit), moved the embellishments around, and added some extra circles and photos. But I still followed the basic design of the layout!

Here's a closer look at the embellishments. Aren't those resin flowers so cool? The paper flowers are fun, too. They're cut with the Cricut using the Art Philosophy Cartridge. The bitty pearls that come in the kit are clustered in the centers of the flowers.

This is the bonus layout you can create using just SOME of the leftovers... Instructions are here. And you'll have even more leftovers for more projects. Plus the stamp set will never run out :)

Here are the bonus cards that can be made from the kit. Instructions are here.

To register for this class, visit my Meetup group and RSVP!

Thursday, March 22, 2012 Scrapbooking 101 Class Layout: Dog Beach with CTMH Stella and Trinity Alphabet

I moved to Seattle this past summer and for several months had been dying to meet other scrappy ladies in the area. Not only for my Close to my Heart business, but because you crafty gals are my peeps! :) I love being around other crafty's so awesome to be around others who you share a passion with! And when you don't have a job or kids...let me tell ya, it's hard to meet people! But since I've been moving around for the past 3 years and am finally settling here for a while, I decided that I'm going to work hard at my Close to my Heart business.

In January I started a group called Seattle Scrapbookers and Cardmakers. Although there's a fee to start a group, I thought it would be worth my while if even I met one new customer. Because as we know, once you fall in love with CTMH you're hooked :)

One of the great things about is that they do some of the marketing for you. When you first start, they send an email to all members in the area who may have an interest in your group. In a matter of days I had 24 new members! Wow...24 potential new crafty friends! And I've gained a few since then.

(Don't worry, I'm getting to the artwork...)

When you start a meetup group you can ask questions to members when they join. I ask for a brief introduction and what is their favorite thing to craft. I had lots of people say that they want to learn how to scrapbook!

So, what better way to start out our group than with a "Scrapbooking 101" class? I held it in February and had about 5 people show up, which I think is pretty good for a first meetup! This is the layout I taught them how to make.

I included pre-cut paper and embellishments in a kit. Then I walked them through assembling the layout, how to stamp with the clear stamps, clean the stamps, showed the different types of adhesives, etc. They had a blast! And of course, as always, the products were the star and I got some orders :)

This isn't the easiest layout to create. Some may not use this in a "Scrapbooking 101" class. But I don't believe in starting with the most basic. Anyone interested in scrapbooking (or card making) has some craftiness in them. I know these ladies had the potential...and they proved me right. With a little guidance and technique demonstration, plus a printout of the layout blueprint from one of CTMH's how-to programs, they made their own beautiful layouts and learned so much more than they would have with a very basic layout. You've gotta push if you're going to improve...just like with anything!

One gal even told me she took a scrapbooking class at a big box craft store and they just plopped a few photos on a page and cut a few pieces of didn't look designed and she didn't learn much. I'm glad I could show her real scrapbooking!

Morals of the story: CTMH makes scrapbooking faster and easier. Teach/learn techniques so even beginner scrappers can create advanced layouts. Join a meetup or other group and meet other crafty ladies! It will feed your soul :)

If you are in the Seattle area and would like to know when I have classes, join my Seattle Scrapbookers and Cardmakers group here >

Happy scrapping!

Baby Girl {What's in a Frame} to Match Pottery Barn Animal Parade Crib Bedding

Here's another {What's in a Frame} I made for a baby girl. The nursery is decorated to match Pottery Barn's Animal Parade crib bedding, and I think this matches pretty darn perfectly. I love the pink and brown and those cute animals. It's hard to see in the photo, but the animal paper is glittered!

Unfortunately I didn't get a great straight-on shot, but it still looks cute. To create the giraffe, I printed off some clip art from my computer onto regular printer paper. Then I adhered the clip art page to CTMH chocolate cardstock and cut it out (through both pages). That way I could use cardstock that matches perfectly. If I had printed the giraffe with printer ink it would fade over time. The cardstock won't! (Unless you put it in direct don't do that!)

Make sure that you adhere the clip art backwards...the opposite side of the cardstock will be the side that faces up. You could just hold the pages in place so either side could be used, but then you run the risk of the paper slipping and not cutting out just right, and we wouldn't want that. Especially with all the detail in this took a while to cut out.

Since I shipped the frame straight to the mom-to-be for her Baby Shower from the customer, I made a matching little 4x4 card to include with it for her. I used the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge to cut the bracket shapes. Love that many possibilities!

Here's the Animal Parade crib bedding from Pottery Barn that I was matching. I think that animal paper was pretty perfect, don't you?

Daydream Personalized Nursery Decor Using Cricut Art Philosophy

Today at Practical Scrappers we're featuring papercrafted Home Decor projects! What's better to feature than one of my recent {What's in a Frame} projects? :) I know I say this every time, but I think this is my new favorite!

I used the CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge to cut the letters. I love this's basic and easy to read so it goes with just about everything. To make the letters glittery, I cut them at 1" onto double-sided sticky paper (I use Stampin' Up!).  Then I adhere them onto the 1-1/2" white square, and sprinkle Martha Stewart glitter on top. I love the MS's so sparkly.

The customer wanted to add the words "important," "kind," and "smart" from the book The Help. This is a gift for her brother and that book is an inside joke with them. I love that! I think the words were highlighted well :)

I used the Daydream paper pack (retired) from Close to my Heart. I fell in love with this paper almost 4 years ago (I can't believe it's been that long!) when my sister was pregnant with my niece. At that time is when I came up with the idea for this personalized nursery decor and created my very first {What's in a Frame} for Madison. I fell in love with it, and so have many of you, and here we are at least a couple dozen later :) I still get excited for every Etsy order I get to create and especially love custom orders!

Pemberley + Card Word Puzzle + Art Philosophy Stamp

I made these cards last month for a card swap with my adopted CTMH team. Have I mentioned how awesome CTMH Consultants are?! I moved here last summer and one of the local CTMH teams has adopted me as one of their own and invited me to join their meetings and events. So sweet!

At every team meeting we do a swap. The first meeting I attended was a card swap using CTMH Pemberley or Stella. I decided to use Pemberley since I hadn't played with it yet. Let me tell you, all of the ladies' cards were AMAZING! Such a talented group up here in the PNW! Here was my contribution...

Isn't this paper cute?! and how about that flower stamp? It's from the new Card Word Puzzle stamp set, and I am IN LOVE with it. It comes with so many words that you have countless phrases to use on cards. And there are some stunning floral and butterfly stamps on it too. I love this line art stamp and decided to highlight it by random stamping it onto the card base as well as cut it out as the focal image.

And you can see better in the photo below that I used my craft knife to cut parts of the flower to give it more dimension.

Products used (CTMH):
Pemberley paper pack, Card Word Puzzle stamp set, Outdoor Denim ink pad, Glitter Gel, sentiment stamp from Art Philosophy Cricut Collection, bitty pearls

"Link with Love" Blog Hop for Practical Scrappers

Hi, Friends!

Welcome to the Practical Scrappers "Linking with Love" Blog Hop! We believe it is important to always give credit when it is due to another crafter. For this unique hop all of our design team members used the same inspiration piece to create their project. Each of them will make an example of themselves as to how to properly "Link with Love" and credit the inspiration. We'll be running the hop thru Noon EST on Sunday—so you have plenty of time to get thru it!

Liz Qualman created this beautiful layout that we have all used for inspiration. Each of us will tell what part we took our inspiration from. The whole hop will culminate at Liz's blog where she'll provide us with a new sketch for inspiration.

And here's the project I created from Liz's inspiration...

I was inspired by Liz's bright colors so I pulled out this paper that I've had since 2007 from We R Memory Keepers' White Out collection. I love the paper so much that I've been hoarding it. Guess I don't use really bright colors in my scrapbooking very often. Glad I finally put it to I just need to use up the rest of it! I was also inspired by the circles around the edge of Liz's layout, and after looking through her sketch gallery I found this sketch I liked and also had edge circles, so I used it for this layout. After finishing my layout I realize I also used flowers and butterflies, which worked well with the paper. I must have been subliminally inspired by Liz's flowers and butterflies, too ;)

You can find Liz's original post, along with her fabulous accompanying sketch on her blog here.

Now head on over to Amber Goble's blog. Many of the designers are providing prizes at their stop and Practical Scrappers is providing a prize for one person who becomes a follower at each stop (for all the details head over to Practical Scrappers).
