Happy Bugsday - Boy's 6th Birthday Invitation & Decorations

A few months ago I helped my friend Kendra with birthday invitations and decor for her son's sixth birthday party. The theme was "Happy Bugsday" and she had pinned a bunch of ideas on her Pinterest board, then shared the board with me. I used that inspiration to create all this fun bug-themed stuff!

First, the invitation, which was inspired by this one and this one. I think mine turned out cuter, though, if I do say so myself :) I found free clipart online and designed the layout in InDesign, then printed and mounted onto 5x7" cardstock. The "bug bites" are just a 2" scalloped circle punch! How clever! (Wish I could take the credit.)

I also made some cupcake toppers. One side has the same bugs as the invitation, and the other side is personalized with Connor's name and age. I punched the bugs and name with a 1-3/4" circle punch and mounted them onto bright colors punched with a 2" scalloped circle punch.

I forgot to get a good picture of the banner before sending it off, but here's a semi-decent closeup. I made lots of pinwheel flowers...let me tell you they took FOREVER. If you have that many pennants to make, I don't recommend you do these pinwheels. But they sure look cute!

Here's the "Happy Bugsday" banner hung up at the party...

I also made the little food signs to go in front of all the food she had out. I loved Kendra's "caterpillars" - they're so healthy! She put fruit on skewers and stuck them into grapefruit halves. So cute!

And here's the whole setup...

The party was a hit for all...I just may have to consider this cute theme someday :)

Have a wonderful rest of your day!

Shabby Chic Decorated Large Letter "Z" for Baby Girl

I created this precious "Z" a while ago and forgot to share it with you! This was for an order from my Etsy shop for a sweet baby girl named Zoey. It would also make a great wedding gift in the couple's new shared initial :)

The stars of the show are those FAB flowers! I used the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge from Close to my Heart and cut them at varying sizes, from about 7" to 3" (once you roll up the spiral that is cut the end result is much smaller in diameter). I used chocolate and blush cardstock.

Each flower has some bling in the center...some have clear sparkles, some mocha opaques, some cream pearls, and some bling buttons. Those beautiful lacy flowers are from the Bohemian Assortment.

To create the leaves I cut them freehand from Sweet Leaf cardstock and ran them through my Fiskars paper crimper. The paper is all retired from CTMH: Cherry-O and Magic Moments.

Zoey's mom and dad LOVE Zoey's shabby chic "Z", and that's what makes me happy :)

Happy creating!

How to Scrapbook Your Vacation Photos in Studio J

how to scrapbook your vacation photos in studio j online scrapbooking

Sometimes scrapbooking our vacation photos can be overwhelming. If you're like me (and I think a lot of you are!), you take hundreds of photos on your vacations!

Obviously I'm not going to scrapbook all of them, but you want to make sure to get a good representation in your scrapbook so you don't forget a thing.

Give Studio J online scrapbooking a try—it's free to use, you only pay if/when you order. It takes roughly 30-45 minutes to create a 2-page layout, so it's much faster than traditional scrapbooking, and you still get to be creative. You can always add embellishments like pearls, ribbon, and brads onto the Studio J layouts once you receive them to add some extra pizzazz.

Here's a video to show you how the layout above was created, which uses Cruisin'—a perfect vacation-themed paper!

Studio J is free to try. You can design to your heart's content and not pay a dime until you purchase your layouts. And if/when you DO decide to purchase your layouts, it's just $6.95 for a 2-page layout. And shipping is only $5.95 for up to 50 layouts...what a deal!

If you've never tried Studio J before, here's a step-by-step video to show you the basics...

As always, let me know if you have any questions!

Live Out Loud Professional Artwork

When I was at CTMH's annual Convention earlier this month we got to see all the professional artwork from the Spring/Summer and new Autumn/Winter Idea Books displayed. It's even more beautiful in person...the pictures are awesome, but there's so much detail that you can't see in the photos!

Here are some pictures of the artwork created with the July Stamp of the Month, Live Out Loud. This stamp set is only available until the end of the month and is just $5 with a $50 purchase. Get yours here >

First, here's the professional photograph from the Idea Book...

It looks awesome! Well here are some pictures I took (just with my iphone), but I tried to show some of the dimension that the artists created.

Pretty fun, huh? Lots going on with the layout...I love the colors.Believe it or not it uses the Superhero papers, which will also be gone after the this month so grab them while you can!.

Here's what all the images on the stamp set look like. If you'd like to snag yours, then simply place an order of $50 or more on my website in July. If you do, I'll also send you a brand new Autumn/Winter Idea Book, releasing Aug. 1, for FREE!

Peek at Avonlea and Cricut Artiste Doily Shapes - Sympathy Card

This is the first item I made with the brand new Artiste Cricut collection from Close to my Heart. I am overwhelmed by how many images there are to choose from on the Artiste cartridge! I can't wait to play with all of the 3D images, but first, unfortunately, I needed to make a sympathy card.

I chose to use the Avonlea paper for the card, as it has subtle colors and has almost a shabby chic look to it. And I played with 3 of the new cuts from the cartridge.
Don't you just love the yummy teal and green colors? They are new colors introduced in the Avonlea kit, but CTMH is offering new "seasonal" colors, in which you can only get the colors in this paper kit...you can't buy extra cardstock, ink, markers, etc. So you've gotta buy Avonlea to get these colors!

Here's a close-up of the intricate cuts on the doilies. I added some bronze glitz glitter gel for some sparkle. Some distressing in Desert Sand ink and the color-ready seam-binding ribbon finished off the look.

To make this card...
  1. Cut a 6x12" card base from kraft cardstock and score/fold it in half for a 6x6 card.
  2. Cut 3 coordinating strips of Avonlea paper each at 1-3/4" x 5-3/4".
  3. With Artiste, cut Accent 4 from page 37 of the handbook to stamp your sentiment onto. (I don't remember what sizes the Cricut cuts are since I was just playing around.)
  4. With Artiste, cut Accent 1 (big doily) and Accent 3 (small doily) from page 31 of the handbook.
  5. Stamp sentiment in desert sand ink (I used the Card Chatter - Sympathy stamp set).
  6. Ink edges of all paper/cuts in desert sand ink with a sponge dauber.
  7. Adhere sentiment piece onto small doily. Add foam squares to top and bottom of small doily and adhere to big doily (so ribbon can run under the center of the shape).
  8. Adhere/assemble the rest of the card. Run the ribbon under the small doily and tie around the base of the card.
  9. Add bronze glitz glitter gel.

Fashionista and Footloose Retirement Card + Giveaway

Happy 4th of July, you guys! Hope you're enjoying some yummy BBQ and friends/family. I'll be BBQing with my hubby and cousin and her hubby this afternoon. It's even supposed to be sunny in Seattle today...woohoo!

Ok onto my card. I loved the Fashionista Stamp Set the moment I set eyes on it in the Spring/Summer 2012 Idea Book. But can you believe this is the first time I played with it?! I made this retirement card for my aunt and thought this fun fashionista was the perfect image to celebrate her new found freedom!

I used a corrugated cardboard card base and Footloose papers with cocoa cardstock. The "congratulations" stamp is an old one from Stampin' Up. I think SU has some adorable stamps, but I have to say it took me 3 tries to stamp it perfectly straight on that shape (which I cut with the Art Philosophy cartridge). That's why I love CTMH stamps so much...they're clear so you can place them perfectly the first time!

If you like the Footloose papers you'd better snag them now because after July they're retiring! Right now the paper packet by itself is not on my website, but the Footloose Workshop on the Go is still available. The WOTG is a great value at just $29.95—it comes with a full paper packet, a super-cute exclusive stamp set, a pack of wooden badge buttons, and an instructional brochure. Great for your summer photos!
