Dakota & Pinwheel Valentine's Day Card: My Favorite {CTMH} Things Blog Hop

Welcome to my Playing With Paper team's first blog hop of 2013! We're all excited to share our Valentine's creations with you this month. And we'll also be showcasing some of our favorite CTMH product(s) at the same time! You are at the beginning of the hop, but it's a circular hop, so it doesn't really matter where you start. If you came from Tysen's blog then you're doing just fine.

My hubby and I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day, although I do love all the red-white-pink creations and decorations out this time of year. But I do give him a card, and I decided to go in a non-traditional direction this year. I was inspired by Rita's card here.

I used the upcoming May stamp of the month, called Pinwheel (oh how I love this set), and paired it with the Dakota papers. I wanted to highlight Dakota because it's quite versatile. At first look it's very country, but it also seems very summery to me with the blue and red colors. This would make a great 4th of July card... but the inside of this one says "You make my world go round." I thought that was the perfect sentiment for Valentine's Day :)

I played with a couple of my new embossing folders. To add the color just to the raised parts, I used a Tim Holtz/Ranger ink blending tool. Since it's a flat, somewhat large surface, it's easy to color just the raised parts. I dabbed it on my ink pad then spread around my paper in a circular motion (keep repeating this).

Now head on over to RACHEL'S BLOG to see what she has in store for you.

Only a few days left to get your Whooo's Your Valentine kit! Just $10 with your $35 order through Jan. 31. Here's a video I made to show you the contents of the kit close-up. Shop now >

Have a wonderful weekend!

More Personalized Monogram Stationery Cards

Here is the second set of monogram cards I have to share with you. (You can see the first set HERE.) This set was for my aunt, Chaylene, who I love giving handmade gifts to because she always loves and appreciates them so much! She's definitely one of my biggest fans/supporters :)

I used the My Mind's Eye Honey Cake 6x6 paper pad along with some dark cocoa cardstock from Paper Zone (now out of business), and Baja Breeze cardstock/ink from Stampin' Up! The peachy ink is actually a mix of 2 CTMH inks...I first inked in Blush, then in Sorbet, and that matched the peachy color in the paper a little better when mixed.

I love how easy it was to put these together! Especially since I made so many of them for Christmas gifts. Just like the last monogram cards I made, I used the Perfect Fit--Frames stamp set, which coordinates with the Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge.

I really love our Monogram stamps...they come individually for only $2.95 each, and you can either cut a 1-1/4" circle on your Cricut or use a 1-1/4" circle punch for them. They add just the right amount elegance to fancy these note cards up perfectly :)

If you are interested in the Art Philosophy Cricut Collection that coordinates with dozens of CTMH clear stamps, then read my page about it HERE.

We also have the Artiste Cricut Collection, which is equally as amazing, and also coordinates with dozens of stamps. You can see lots more info on Artiste HERE.

Both cartridges have approximately 700 images on seriously get SO MUCH with them! A ton of cuts, plus 3 coordinating stamp sets and 3 sets of coordinating chipboard pieces. Whenever my customers buy one collection, they almost always come back to get the other because they're so impressed with it!

Thanks for stopping by!

Time for Coffee

This is my first week back as a designer at Heart 2 Heart Challenges! And this week's challenge is "Hot Cocoa."

I decided to take it in a slightly different direction, and used coffee as the star of my card (I do work at Starbucks, after all). This card is a version I made for my swap cards at Convention this past July...which I never shared here! (Shame on me!)

I used the retired Wonderland Paper pack with Kraft cardstock, along with the A Sip stamp set (also retired). The Starbucks VIA packet fits nicely into the cute coffee mug, which is on 3D foam so the VIA packet would fit behind it, and glammed up with some silver glitz glitter gel.

If you'd like to see what the rest of the Design Team created, along with others who are participating in the challenge, then head on over to Heart 2 Heart's blog. Then you can create something and participate, too! Use "Hot Cocoa" as your inspiration and take it wherever your imagination goes.

Thanks for visiting!

Monogram Note Cards Gift Set

For Christmas I made all the ladies on my gift list a set of monogram note cards. I forgot to take pictures of all of them, but I can share a few of the sets with you.

I hand-picked paper for each person from the giant stash of 6x6 paper pads I've collected. I just love these cute little 6x6 pads...and these note cards were the perfect use for them.

First up is the set I made for my Mother-in-Law, Jan. She loves blues and yellows, so this paper from My Mind's Eye Stella Rose collection worked well for her.

I designed the cards after Lisa Stenz's monogram cards here.  I used the monogram stamp along with the Perfect Fit—Frames stamp set. This stamp set coordinates with the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge, which made this project a breeze. I love that the card style is simple, but the stamps fancied them up.

I didn't get a picture of it, but I put the set of 6 cards with envelopes in a clear acrylic box that I got from a long time ago. Perfect for gifting.

She loved them :)

Have a wonderful Friday!

Don't forget about my stamp set GIVEAWAY! Details here.

January Stamp of the Month: Happy Valentine's Day

I'll be honest, when I first saw this stamp of the month it was not one of my favorite...I'm more of a cutesy stamp kinda girl. But it sure has come in handy! And just look at how beautiful this artwork from CTMH is...

This elegant stamp set includes rose floral images, sweet sayings, and quotes perfect for showing your heartfelt emotion on Valentine’s Day and thereafter. And at just $5 with your qualifying $50 order this month only, it's the perfect set to add to your collection! Shop now >

Here's a {What's in a Frame} nursery decor I made a few months ago using this stamp set. Lily's nursery theme is roses and lilies, so these floral stamps were the perfect addition to her decor! You can see all the details in my previous post about it HERE.

Twin Boys Owl {What's in a Frame} in Aqua, Gray & White

I still barely have a voice and my head is fuzzy, but my coughing and stuffy nose at least let me sleep last night!! Woohoo...I haven't slept well in days because I've been coughing the entire night. Boy did this cold hit me hard.

So...that means I'm feeling well enough to share my latest and greatest with you. One of my friends has a friend who had twin boys and asked if I'd ever made a frame for twins before. "No...but I'd LOVE to!" So I found the 8x10 shadowbox frames hinged together at Michael's. When the boys have their own rooms they can simply take the hinges off and they'll have their own decor.

I wish the photos were better...I had to do a quick photo shoot inside since it was raining...but a little photo-editing goes a long way :)
{Click to see bigger}

My friend sent me a couple of photos of the twins' room so I matched the colors using CTMH Lagoon, Gray Wool, Slate, and White Daisy. The papers I used are from last year's Dotty for You special, Dakota (woodgrain), and some I found in my stash.

I used the stamp set from the current Whooo's Your Valentine kit for the chevron pattern and the owls. (The kit is only $10 with a $35 purchase...such an awesome deal for the super-cute kit!) The "Love" letters are rub-ons (retired). I used Liquid Glass to adhere the Baker's Twine. The heart on the right was stamped in lagoon and outlined with a white paint pen.

To color the Milepost shapes (corrugated cardboard) I used a white sponge dabber (from Ranger) to dab some acrylic paint on the shape. (I've mentioned the sponge dabber before...I LOVE it. It's the low-mess way to use acrylic paint.) Then once the paint was dry I sponged on some Lagoon ink with my sponge dauber.

Each of the owls were paper pieced a bit. I love that the shape of these owls are easy to cut out. This Lagoon one below was stamped in lagoon once and Gray Wool once, then I cut the eyes out of the Gray Wool owl and glued them on top of the Lagoon owl. Some bitty sparkles finished him off nicely. (Do you know how hard it was to NOT add Silver Shimmer Trim to this since it's for boys?! I do love my bling!)

The stars borders are also rub-ons.

I cut the word bubble out with the Artiste Cricut cartridge using the Dotty paper and glued that on top of one of the Dimensional Element chipboard pieces that comes with the Artiste collection. Then I stamped "You bring a Smile to my face" with Gray Wool onto white cardstock and fit it inside the bubble. I LOVE that sentiment and am so glad I dug thru my entire stamp collection to find the perfect stamp for that spot. It's from the stamp set we got for attending CTMH's 2012 Convention in Dallas, TX. This is the first time I have used the set and I was giddy when I found it :)

This last photo just shows some more dimension.

Tada! My friend LOVED it (as she always does...she orderes a frame from me for all her friends when they have babies! Thanks, Kerin!!) I hope the Mama and Daddy loved it just as much!

Oh...and I didn't mention the Alphabet stamp set I used is called the Cocktail Alphabet. It's RETIRING on January 31! So if you love it, be sure to get it this month.

But I do want to let you know that I'll once again be on the Design Team over at Heart 2 Heart Challenges! I was on H2H's first-ever DT almost 2 years ago, and they've invited a bunch of us back to be on the new team for the new year.
