Tommy Tri-Shutter Card by Denise

I love it when my customers share the projects they've made from the CTMH supplies they've purchased from me!

Denise stepped out of her normal crafting element with this nautical-themed card. She used the Tommy paper pack, Tommy Canvas Shapes, and Sail Away stamp set, along with her Outdoor Denim stamp pad to create this awesome tri-shutter card! Logan is one lucky boy!

If you've purchased supplies from me, I'd love to feature your artwork on my blog, too! Email me at jaymalew [at] gmail [dot] com to share :)

Fiesta Baby Shower Invitations

One of my good friends, Melissa, is also pregnant. And she's due next week...just 2 weeks before me! I couldn't make it to her baby shower but wanted to have a part in it, so I made her invitations. Most of the invitations were sent via email, but I made a handful that went to those without email addresses :)

Melissa has always had a love of the Latino culture. Her and Chris's wedding was a Fiesta theme, so it is only fitting that Baby Bean have a bright-colored nursery and a Fiesta-themed Baby Shower!

I was inspired by THIS invitation, which I found on Pinterest, and this is what I came up with. Isn't it funny how you can be totally inspired by something, but it turned out completely different?

I love the title font I used. It's called "You Wish You Were a Shirley" and screams "FIESTA," don't you think? And their names are also in a fun font, called "Amazing Ruler." I created the invitations with a few different-colored backgrounds for variety (but I like the red background best). :)

She loves them. And so do I :)

I also made my own garden-themed Baby Shower invitations, which I'll share soon (along with more DIY home projects). I made them over 2 months ago...about time I share, right?! Well, that's what happens when you go on vacation, buy a house, move to a different state, and are knee-deep in new-home DIY projects :) Oh yeah, all while pregnant.

Happy creating!

New-Home DIY Projects: RED Paint!

I haven't been posting here as often because lately I've been knee-deep in DIY projects. We purchased our first home about a month ago, and have slowly been completing our DIY to-do list. It was mostly move-in ready, and the only room we were planning to paint was Kailyn's nursery. But it turns out I just really can't stand white walls! And we wanted to make this home our own before Kailyn arrives...so we decided to tackle some extra projects. I wish I could whip through them faster, but at 8 months preggo, it's hard to do any of it!

Here are a couple projects we did recently with RED paint!

First, the front door. I used to LOVE purple, but I'm not as fond of it anymore...especially this periwinkle color. I've always wanted a red front door, so we made it happen!
Here's a bigger/better photo. I love our cute little house :)

And here's a close-up of the bright red door! The hardware was gold, so I spray-painted it black. Now we just need to change the address numbers to plain black...those purple flowers don't match anymore!

The next RED paint project was our dining room. Here's the VERY before picture. Obviously Oslo was quite the helper when moving in :) Actually, my mom was a life-saver: she came up for 9 days to help us unpack and get organized. I couldn't have done all the bending and lifting and putting away without her, since my hubby had already started his new job! Here's looking from the kitchen into the dining room...

And here's another before shot...after we finished decorating but decided we NEED to paint because we HATED the boring white wall.

Ahhh, much better! I love the dramatic red! We used Behr Ultra with Primer (which I learned really doesn't have primer...it's a marketing ploy for better coverage). But regardless, this only needed 2 coats and a few spots needed 3. (The front door needed FOUR coats!)

Here's a different angle. Oh...we also painted the fireplace grill. It used to be gold (as seen in the before pics), and we used a high-heat black spray paint. (Don't worry, when I painted it was well-ventilated and I took lots of breaks. Plus used a low-VOC water-based paint.)

Now the only thing left to do in the dining room is get REAL chairs! And I'd also like to spray-paint the chandelier black. Really, I'd like a new one, but spray paint is a great (and cheap) fix for now :) And, down the road, I would love all the doors and edging to be white...but the WHOLE house is glossy oak, so that's a BIG job for a much later date.

I'll share more DIY projects soon. I can't wait to share Kailyn's nursery with you, but it's not quite finished. I decided to paint her bathroom, too (surprise, surprise). So...I'll share her nursery and bathroom when I finish. But I'll have more to share before then.

Happy DIY-ing :)

Techie Name Frame for a 5-Year-Old Boy

Hello! Here's a name frame I created recently that is very different from any I've done! I love creating new things :)

I had a request for a frame with a technology theme...my clients' 5-year-old nephew is into computers, cell phones, ipods...anything that has to do with technology. So I scoured my local craft stores and found no such embellishments. Until I checked Hobby Lobby's online store (because I don't have one near me anymore). HL saved the day! I found some cute 3D embellishments to decorate Evan's frame.

The computer and ipod embellishments originally had just a clear piece for the screens, and I didn't like it, it looked kind of cheap. So I made my own screens by cutting some white cardstock to size and covering with shiny silver acrylic paint (I had to add some bling somewhere!). Then I added some detail with a white paint pen. I also used the same silver paint to cover the chipboard letters for his name and tied some black baker's twine to add some texture.

All of the background squares began as plain cardstock (in CTMH Sky, Slate, Pacifica, and Black) and I dressed them up with stamps! Oh how I love using stamps to create my own patterned paper—I especially love the tone-on-tone look! The grid is from Noted Backgrounds, the dots from Hit the Spot, and the numbers from Capture the Date. All of those stamps are retired from CTMH, but you can use ANY stamps you have! I particularly love Universal Backgrounds, In the Background, Distressed Backgrounds, and the NEW Geometric Backgrounds.

Evan's aunt loved the frame, as I'm sure Evan did, too :)

Happy crafting!

Artbooking Meets Laughing Lola: Color My Heart Guest Designer

This week I have the honor of being the guest designer at the Color My Heart Color Dare blog :)

The challenge this week is to create something with Laughing Lola, using 2 of the exclusive colors in the kit: Laughing Lola blue (similar to Lagoon) and Laughing Lola gold (similar to Bamboo or Desert Sand).

I played with the new Artbooking Cricut cartridge for my card! I wanted to show you that Artbooking is for more than scrapbooking and mini-books...it also has great cuts for cards!

Did you notice anything "weird" about this card? No stamping! Wow, that doesn't happen often for me. Usually I at least stamp the sentiment, but Artbooking took care of that for me.

I created a card with a similar sketch HERE, and I love that it really highlights the beautiful patterns in our CTMH paper, so I decided to use it again. I added some silver glitter paper behind the negative space in my Cricut cut. To give the word bubble a black outline, I cut the same word bubble (pg 78) in black, just 1/4" larger than the purple. Then I snipped the little piece that hangs down from the purple, because they didn't line up exactly. The black border (pg 48) is also cut with Artbooking. In order to fit across the 5" card I cut it at 3/4" (I did the trial and error for you).

Remember to push "REAL DIAL SIZE" when you make cards! All of the cuts on this cartridge are designed to cut in proportion to the scrapbook layout or mini-book they're designed for. So if you want a specific size you need to press "Real Dial Size" to get the size you want.

This next photo shows the fun dimension on this card...

I popped the word bubble up on 3D foam tape. And see those "flower" cut outs in lagoon? They are the cuts from the negative space in one of the Artbooking overlays (pg 84). When you cut an overlay, there are so many small cuts left that I don't want to go to waste, so I save them all. In this card, I inked around each one to make them stand out before gluing them to my card.

I have lots of info about the Artbooking Cricut collection, including a video review of it!

Thanks for visiting today. And remember to play along with the Color Dare this week...it's a fun one!
