Spring Critters "Thanks a Bunch" Frog Card

Hello! I am back with a fun card I made last weekend to play along with the Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge. Only problem is I waited too long to post it...they're on to a different color combo now. Oh well, I can still post my card here :)

The color combo is: Cotton Candy, Sweet Leaf, Topiary, Glacier and White Daisy.

My starting point was to random stamp a piece of 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" white daisy paper with the One of a Kind stamp set (retired) in the challenge colors. I love this technique! I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it at that point, so I turned to a card sketch at Mojo Monday. Of course I didn't get this card posted to play along on their blog, either! But it still gave me the inspiration I needed. Challenges are a great way to get your mojo going, aren't they?

I colored this cute little froggie from the Spring Critter stamp set with watercolor pencils. To the left is what the frog looks like after coloring but before blending. The beauty of watercolor pencils is that it can be messy and imperfect... I'm totally addicted to this technique now! Add little or more color depending on how dark you want the final result. On his belly I mixed yellow and green.

Then to blend I used CTMH's blending pen. It leaves such a wonderful, smooth result...seen below! I stamped the frog in Memento black ink to be sure it didn't bleed when going over it with the pen.

TIP: To make sure your sentiment stamp fits the space on the frog perfectly, set your block over the space. Then mount your sentiment on the block as you look through to make sure it's lined up just right! I love that you can curve acrylic stamps.

The Spring Critters stamp set also has matching Thin Cuts dies. They both retire on April 30, so if you love them as much as I do you better snag them quick!

Mixing Pocket Scrapbook Cards: Backyard Picture My Life (Project Life) Layout

Today I have another scrapbook page to show you. This time it's a Picture my Life (Project Life) pocket page. I mostly used the new Love Your Selfie PML cards on this layout. But our cards are so versatile - the bottom right sunburst card is from an older Surf's Up PML card kit. It is a 4x6 card, but I used it as a background for my 4x4 photo.

I usually add my embellishments to the outside of the page protectors when I use pocket pages. I like to see everything in its place before embellishing, plus then I have more freedom: I can overlap pockets instead of keeping it confined to just what's in one pocket.

The "Sweet" sentiment is a cut from the CTMH's latest Cricut cartridge, Artistry. I used DCWV silver glitter paper. The sequins are self-stick - and the Coral Reef sequins that I used just so happen to be on CLEARANCE!

I like to mix regular 12x12 pages with pocket pages...they can go side-by-side and look great together! The pocket pages are just a tad bit larger because of the extra stitching, but it's hardly noticeable.

I'll be sharing a photo of a 2-page layout soon where one side is classic 12x12 and one page is pocket pages :)

Thanks for stopping by! Let me know if you have any questions.

First Piggy Tails Scrapbook Layout Using Brushed Paper Pack

Last month I was lucky enough to attend a 3-day scrapbooking weekend in Estes Park, Colorado. It was SO. MUCH. FUN! My sister-in-law and I were gifted the trip with 6 other wonderful ladies. I missed my girl and hubby a TON, but when you're looking at her cute face the whole time you're scrapping (plus surrounded by snow and mountains outside), it makes being away a little easier :) Plus I got a ton done.

Here is the first page I completed, from 1.5 years ago. My, how the time flies...

Some of the ladies there completed upwards of 40 and 50 pages. I, however, spent probably way too much time on each page. I completed 15 scrapbook pages. Being a detail-oriented perfectionist has its pros and cons :) I LOVE all of my layouts and am happy with how much I completed, so that's all that matters!

I used the Brushed paper pack, complements, and assortment from Close to my Heart. They are now retired, but you can still snag the Brushed Complements and Brushed Assortment on CLEARANCE (plus a ton of other awesome products!) for over 50% off. I think it's actually closer to 75% off. Score!

The Brushed Complements are vellum stickers, but I wanted them to stand out more and i wanted to put some on foam tape. So I stuck them onto white cardstock, then cut them out. Took a while (told you I spend too long!), but I am happy with the outcome. And hey, when you have a whole 3-day weekend without kids hanging on you, you can spend as long as you want on your pages, right?! ;)

I like to add the date to all of my scrapbook layouts, but sometimes I don't want it very noticeable. Here, I used a roller date stamp to stamp the date discreetly in the corner. Close to my Heart has a few different types of roller stamps to choose from HERE >

I hope you enjoyed my cute little piggy-tail girl today. I have more scrapbook layouts AND cards to share with you soon.
